Several people shared screenshots of the app's privacy policy after claims emerged that the New Profile Pictures app was a hoax. One person shared a screenshot of the requested app permissions and wrote: "New profile do not download the pic.com app it takes
all your information and send it to moscow!!!!!!!"
The permissions listed in the screenshot are not uncommon compared to other popular mobile apps. When we compared the content in this image to other top apps, such as TikTok, WhatsApp, and Instagram, we found it's not uncommon for users to request permission to "receive data from the Internet" and "full network access" . , When people download the apps provided by these businesses, they should know that they are giving them so much access. On the other hand, the permissions of the New Profile Pictures app are not out of line.
Is the new Profile Pic app safe to use?
In short, the claim that this app is unusually offensive is untrue, so more than likely the New Profile Pic app is safe to use. Its requested app permissions are similar to those of other mainstream apps. The claim that this software is collecting data for the Russian government actually has no basis. The program was created by a firm in the British Virgin Islands that employs a team of foreign developers, some of whom reside in Russia. Lastly, the claim that money was withdrawn from the bank accounts of the users of the New Profile Pictures app is so far unfounded.

It is also worth repeating that this app is not from a new company, and the New Profile Pic app is not their first application. ToonMe and PhotoLab, the developer's two other apps, have over 150 million installs on Google Play. Both of these apps have been around for years, and we are unaware of any reports that they have been used to steal money from people's bank accounts or pass user data to the Kremlin.
