Today we are goint to discuss if your gas water heater not working. have you been taking a cold water bath for the past few days? Why Gas Water Heater Not Working?

There are a some reasons why a gas water heater may not work.

1. No Gas

When a gas water heater is not getting enough (or any) gas, it will not be able to ignite to heat the water. Check the gas meter, shutoff valve, and control knob on the heater itself to make sure none of them are clogged. If all three are on and the burner still does not ignite, contact your local plumber.

2. No flame

Many gas water heaters have a pilot light that will ignite the burner when the unit is turned on. If the water heater has a bad thermocouple (the part that turns off the gas when no pilot flame is present), it can also extinguish the pilot light. Look to replace the thermocouple.

3. Thermostat settings

The thermostat dial on a water heater should always be set to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. If not, set it to this temperature and let the tap water run for a few minutes. If there is no change in water temperature, the thermostat itself may need to be replaced.

4. Faulty Safety Shutoff

Every gas water heater has a safety shutoff when the internal temperature becomes too high. This shutdown valve will prevent the water from overheating by stopping the supply of gas to the fixture. Unfortunately, a faulty shutoff cannot be fixed and must be replaced.

5. Dip Tube Trouble

A properly functioning water heater will have a dip tube in which the cold water is heated from the top of the tank to the bottom. When a dip tube cracks, the water at the top of the tank will flow into the outlet pipe without ever heating the bottom of the tank. Unfortunately, replacing the water heater is the smartest move if this piece is broken.
