How to fix iPhone “AirPods left Behind" False Notifications When AirPods in Pocket?

How to fix the "Airpods left behind" notification even though AirPods are in my pocket? :  Apple recently rolled out firmware updates for iPhones and AirPods. In the latest update, Apple introduced a separation alert in Find My app and using this feature iPhone owners will be notified if they leave their Airtags, AirPods or other gadgets behind. But it seems that the new feature is bad for some iPhone users as it is showing a "Left Behind" notification randomly on iPhone.

Some iPhone 13,12 users are reporting issues with AirPods notifications. iPhone shows a random notification that "AirPods lag behind" while AirPods are near the user. iPhone started showing false 'AirPods quit' notification after the 4A400 firmware update. Notification is shown on the left side even when AirPods are on and the user is listening to music on them.

A user reported about this:

"The AirPods will be in my pocket or in the backpack trunk and my phone says it's not detected anymore."

Notification on iPhone shows "AirPods left behind. This device was no longer found near you. It was last seen". Some iPhone users are getting this notification very often especially when they are travelling. This is happening with all different models like iPhone 13 and AirPods 3 and will show wrong notification of AirPods not with users.

Why iPhone is showing the wrong AirPods left behind notification?

Probably "Airpods Left Behind" has something to do with the problem regarding Find My Network. By the time their location update syncs again, the iPhone will think they've been left behind, but things haven't actually refreshed fast enough that they might notice they're still with you.

This issue is not yet acknowledged by Apple and hopefully, we will get an update on it very soon.

Fix AirPods left behind notification

1. Reboot Device

The problem can be caused by a software glitch in the iPhone or Airpods. Try repairing the devices and rebooting them to fix any software glitches.

2. Disable FindMy Notifications

If getting “AirPods leave notifications behind often” you can disable those notifications in the Find My app. Find My > Devices > Tap on the device you want > and toggle off "Notify when left behind". But please note that this will turn off the notification permanently, even in the actual situation.

3. Check Battery Level

Some users who have been seeing the "AirPods left behind" notification frequently report that you may start getting this notification if the AirPods case battery runs out. This issue could be where the AirPods are randomly shutting down the Bluetooth low energy connection. Please make sure the AirPods and case have a good battery level.

4. Make sure the case is working properly

Since the iPhone doesn't detect AirPods near them, back to back notifications will be turned on. Please check to make sure that both pods are charging. For many users the left or right pod will intermittently lose connection with the charging contact in the case, thus the iPhone assumes the pod is out of the case but not in the ear, so shows a "left behind" notification. You can also contact Apple and ask them to replace the case and that will fix the problem.

Also, we recommend you update your Apple devices to the latest firmware release for a permanent solution to the problem.
